simple Pot arrest

while driving on interstate I was followed then stopped in South Carolina. Officer asked for my ID, which I provided and then asked me to get out of the car. He gave me a warning, then asked if he could search car, my reply was no. he then preceeded to search car, is this legal?

Yes, it is legal. The police will always ask if they can search. However, they are not required to. They can do a limited search of any car they pull over.
