Legal Question in Criminal Law in South Carolina
my son got a ticket for littering and the ticket states that the fine is $1090.00, but the section code that is listed on the ticket states that the maxium fine is $500.00. Can we have the charges dismissed or the fine reduced to what the section code states?

I'm sorry if it took a while to answer your question. It takes about a week for the site to send me the questions. The dollar amount that you see on a ticket is not a formal amount. Its an amount that the police officer writes and its more of a recommendation to the court than anything. Also, fine amounts in the Code of Laws are very decieving because there are court costs and assements that the code does not mention in that section that you looked at. Depending on a couple things, its possible to have the ticket dismissed. I would need to ask you a couple questions. You are free to all. My office is in the Myrtle Beach area.
