Worst case senerio is not very likely. Very seldom does anyone charged with Simple Possession of Marijuana receive the maximum penalty. The statute states the penalties can be jail, fine and loss of drivers license. And, its considered a crime and can result in a criminal drug conviction on their criminal records.

If they do not have a criminal record, then they should inquire about participating in a program that involves doing community service and then once sucessfully completed, they dismiss the charge and they expunge the record.

They need to take this serious. Its a crime and is not something that a young college student needs on their criminal record.
