Legal Question in Criminal Law in South Carolina
swifter justice
approximately 4 years ago I broke the law by trying to escape arrest. Since then I have been attending court sessions regularly. Not every month but enough for it to really effect my life. Because of this arrest I lost my job and employers refuse to hire me because a background check displays my pending charges.
My question is this, how long is appropriate for me to wait befor the District attorney actually get to my case before its considered unconstitutional? I have been waiting long enough for a resolution. I have watched others that have committed more severe crimes get their day in court and in many instances get their cases dropped. I just need some sort of direction on this subject. Thanks in advance

Re: swifter justice
What your referring to is per a person's right to a Speedy Trial. There is a process to go through before that takes affect. I don't know anything about your case so I do not know if your Speedy Trial rights are affected. Your attorney should know. I am assuming that you were made an offer on your case and you have turned it down and are awaiting trial. We have a slow court system here in SC. I wish I could tell you more, but I would need to know the details of your case and I do not know that. The person who is in the best position to answer your concerns is your attorney. I wish you the best.
