Legal Question in Criminal Law in South Carolina
tough dealings with police
I have been in a situation where I acted as a contractor. When the insurance check for my labor was issued the woman forged my business name and deposited it into her account. After several visits to the police station a detective finally called me in. He explained to me he met with the woman that stole the check. The detective turned things around and started asking a bunch of questions insinuating there was some sort of impropriety with the work. He even mentioned insurance fraud. He tried to get me for not having a building permit. Construction services inspected the job, but he went there and asked. .** He proceeded to tell me that it was a civil matter. Needless to say I was very upset and asked to talk to his boss. His boss said the same thing. All three banks agreed it was bank fraud. He then took a warrant out on me for failure to operate w/o a business license. I found out the check was luckily cashed in a different county. I went to the county police there. The investigator there took a warrant out on the woman the next day. There were no hassles. I just can't figure out why they behaved this way. It was very time consuming and dramatic. I feel like something should be done about their behavior and refusal to prosecute
