unlawful poss of a weapon

i was charged with unlawful poss. of a weapon three months after the incident there was no weapon taken off my poss. they only got someone saying i had one can they do that

The particular crime does not require that the police themselves find the weapon on the person. I am curious. Did they ever find the weapon? And who was the person that said you had it?
