Legal Question in Criminal Law in South Carolina
Warrant issued
I received a letter from South Carolina telling me that I have a warrant that has been issued for me. I am to call them on Tuesday. I haven't been to South Carolina in 15 years and don't know this is all about. I was wondering why after all these years I would be contacted about something like this...What do I do? I have never been in trouble before except for a speeding ticket or something like that. I always paid my tickets off and have a clean driving record from North Carolina.

Re: Warrant issued
First of all, it could be a mistake. The best thing you can do is contact a South Carolina lawyer who can contact the authorities and get all the possible information so you understand what is going on. You do not want to ignore it, as it will only make things worse. If they pick you up in another state its possible you could sit in jail pending the extradition proceedings for weeks. In the past when I have handled these cases I have found that the police that are handling the warrants are very cooperative in making the process smooth. Robert Johnston
