Legal Question in Criminal Law in South Carolina

Witness to a murder.

I witnessed my ex boyfriend kill someone over jealousy. Now the DA is treating me with little respect and I keep getting the run around about the case. They seem to not want to help me get psychatric help pertaining to the murder I saw and they have all the evidence and even a confession from my exboyfriend, but they still want me to testify. What do I need to do to get the help I need to deal with this? Do I need to obtain a lawyer to look out for my best interest?

The Solicitor's office basically prosecutes cases and is not obligated to assist a person to obtain psychiatric counseling. However, they do work hand in hand with the South Carolina Victims Assistance program. You may want to either ask the Solicitor to put you in touch with them or contact them directly to see if they can be of help to you. They can be reached at:

State Office of Victim Assistance

This web site will not allow me to put a phone number in for them.

Its hard to say if you need an attorney without knowing more details about the case. You can make an appointment with an attorney and go discuss it or you call call or email us. Good luck. Robert Johnston [email protected]
