I do not have enough information to tell you exactly what you can do. I'm a criminal attorney in the Myrtle Beach area and practice state-wide. So if you decide to retain an attorney, which you might need to do, I can help.
Unfortunately, there are other problems in telling you what to do. Honestly, the best thing you can do is let a lawyer handle this for you. I'm not sayinig this simply because I am a lawyer. I'm telling you this because there is a lot more to the court system that what most people realize.
The following are just a few of the things that need to be considered, when deciding how to proceed with this case.
How did you find out about the warrant? Did you receive some sort of letter or notice?
Did you pay the debt with a check or cash. The next question is obvious. If it was a check, then I would ask if you have tried to get a copy of the cancelled check from your bank. If it was cash, then do you have a receipt?
Whether this is a felony or a misdemeaner. That would depend on the dollar amount. Also, which court the case is in. That makes a difference too.
Where is the actual check. The original check. That makes a big difference.
I wish I could give you some guidance, but there is too much involved.
