Legal Question in Criminal Law in South Carolina
Ok, two years ago,an ex-girlfriend of mine and I were arrested for shoplifting at Wal-Mart. I was booked and processed and released on my own recognizance, as was she. My 10 year old stepdaughter was with us and put something in her bag when I told her to put it in the buggy. I purchased groceries as well, and they saw her do that, and guess what? We all got arrested! I called her father to pick her and the groceries up and got out that Tuesday. It was a Sunday. Well, because the girl was 17 and I was 20, I get the harsher punishment. Why in the world are they issuing a "contributing to the delinquency of a minor" warrant on me now, two years after the initial arrest??? What am I looking at here? What do I do? Get a lawyer? Someone please help. I know it was stupid. I don't need judgments, I need answers. I have since NEVER gotten into trouble, got a great job, and had 2 babies who need me at home. I can't go to jail. What do I do? Will they give me a court date with a fine or what? Someone help.

I am so sorry to hear that. That sounds so unfair to arrest you two years later. I have been a criminal defense attorney here in SC for a long time now and I don't ever recall seeing that before.
As far as your questions, they are hard to answer without knowing more. I need to ask you a few questions. Yes, you do need an attorney. "Cntributing to the delinquency of a minor" is a felony and is taken very serious by the prosecutors and courts.
If you would like to call me I would be happy to fill you in on what you need to know. I never charge for those types of calls and am more than happy spending some time with you on the phone. I think that is very unfair to charge you two years later.
