Legal Question in DUI Law in South Carolina

Dui

My 23 year old daughter was arrested for DUI. She was also charged with simple assault on an officer. She did get arrested before for driving with a suspended license. She is to appear in court I believe in one or two weeks. I would like to know what would happen if she does not have a lawyer represnet her and what could be the out come if she hires one. Also about how much would the fee be and is it possible for her to pay it off on a payment plan.

Would she be able to get a conditional license to go to work and meetings? Thank you

Re: Dui

I always feel funny telling people that they need a lawyer, for the simple reason I am a lawyer and I make money by way of being paid by the very same people I am telling that they need one. See why that makes me feel funny? But the truth of the matter is, she has been arrested with two crimes, both of which have potential jail time and could end up on her criminal record, which could be there for years. So in my opinion, yes, she needs a lawyer. I would no more recommend a person go to court without a lawyer than I would recommend a person perform sugery who is not a doctor. No competent attorney can tell you what will happen. All I can tell you is what COULD happen. She could be found guilty of the DUI, have her license suspending, pay a very expensive fine and go to jail. As to the Assault on a Police Officer, again, do not know anything about the case and therefore cannot tell you what will happen. However, I can again tell you what COULD happen. She could be found guilty and be put in jail and pay a high fine. Without knowing what happened, the facts, her record, what the evidence looks like, there is no way I can predict what the outcome of court will be. I am willing though to speak with her or with you free of charge. You are under no obligation to hire me, but at least you will know what to expect. I have a law firm in Horry County but represent people all over the state. I also do payment plans. You can click on my name for my number or you can email me at: [email protected]
