Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

Adoption or name change

I want to change my son's name. His father's rights were relinquished when we came to the US from the Ukraine through their legal system there. How can I do this?

Re: Adoption or name change

The name change action must be filed in the Family Court. If the father's rights were terminated, things will go a little smoother and faster. However, there are still other requirements that you must satisfy, including having a Guardian ad Litem appointed for the child.

These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.
