Adultery

are there any legal consequences for adultery?

Adultery is technically still a criminal offense in SC, though I can't imagine anyone being prosecuted for it nowadays. The consequences in a divorce case are that the at-fault spouse can get a smaller portion of the marital estate, plus he/she will probably be required to pay the other spouse's attorney's fees and private investigator's fees.
