Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

alimony

I have been divorced for several years and my husband has remarried. All of a sudden payments are late. I have been dating a guy for two years and I stay at his house on the week-end due to traveling cost. I maintain my residence since I have a child that comes home and he has children. How much can I stay with this friend and not be in danger of losing my alimony.

Re: alimony

One of the ways that your ex-husband can seek to terminate the alimony is if he can prove that you have lived with your boyfriend for a period of ninety consecutive days. Staying over on occasional weekends, by itself, should not be enough to enable him to terminate the alimony payments.

These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.
