Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

Ex blocking visitation

Me and my ex never got married but we lived together for a awhile then she became pregnant, quit work and I supported her through pregnancy, birth of my son and for several months thereafter. The same month she started back to work, I was laid off from my job and the relationship got rocky. Eventually we split after found out she was not faithful. Only after I moved out did she finally decide to get the birth certificate filed out, without telling me and filed in father ''unknown''. Now she is not letting me see my son, unless I ''sign off on paternity'', which I am not sure I know what this means. Because of her actions, and other actions at the time of my son's conception it has me wondering if this is even my child. I was there at birth, held him in my arms, and was the only father for him through 13 months of his life. Now ripped away from me, am pondering my options.

Question: What legal rights do I have, and/or what are my options?

Thanks

Re: Ex blocking visitation

You have many options available to you. You can seek custody based upon her actions, or you can seek visitation, or you can seek to be added to his birth certificate, etc. However, you should decide which course of action you want to take and move in that direction now, as time will work against you if you delay.

These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.
