Re: Can i call
While people use the terms "custody" and "visitation" casually, they have specific meanings under the law. In Pennsylvania, the term "sole custody" means that both legal (decisionmaking) and physical custody is ordered awarded to one person; "visitation" is the right of the other party to spend time with the child without taking actual physical custody. This is different from partial custody, which is a shared physical custody of the child.
In your situation is is very important to understand the level of actual custody/visitation awarded.
Your custody order may address the issue of telephone contact between yourself and the child. If it does not and the issue is troublesome between the parties, you may petition the court to address the issue. Generally, such contact will be permitted within certain restrictions agreed to for the convenience of all concerned.
There is strong public policy to encourage a relationship between the child and both parents provided such relationships are in the child's best interests.
