Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

Name change

I was born in 1952 in the state of NY. I was named on the Hospital Birth Certificate with a first and middle name. For 55 years I have been known as a simular first name, middle name and my mother's maiden name. When I applied to the state of new your for a state Birth certificate, I found out under the table that my last name was under the male individual who got my mother PG. What do I need to do to get my name that I have always used corrected to my legal name?

Re: Name change

If you reside in SC at this time, then you can bring an action here to have your legal name changed. There are several statutory requirements that must be met, but it can certainly be done.

These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.

If you need more information, you can visit my family law blog (www.SCFamilyLaw.com) or our website (www.StevensFirm.com). I wish you the best of luck.
