Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

Child abandonment

What do I do if my fiance who has lived

with me for four years abandoned my

daughter and I? We also filed taxes

together and I read somewhere online

that we are considered legally married

because of that. Is that true?

Re: Child abandonment

Common law marriage still exists in South Carolina, and if you meet the requirements of it, then you will need to get separated and/or divorced just like any other married person in your situation.

These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.

If you need more information, you can visit my family law blog (www.SCFamilyLaw.com) or our website (www.StevensFirm.com). I wish you the best of luck.
