Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina
child custoday by non parent
About a year and 2 months ago my husband's family member asked us if we would be able to take care of two of her grandchildren that she was given custody of since her daughter was found to be unfit. We took them in now we are wondering what to do next. We know the mother, she is a drug addict and the father is unknown. What are our rights to these children?

The answer here depends on what you want to do with regard to these children. If you are interested in keeping them, then the best route is to file for legal custody of them. If you are not, then you have several options, including returning them to the grandmother, calling DSS, etc.
These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.
