Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina
child custody
after the birth of my baby, i went into severe postpartum depression and post traumatic stress disorder. during this awful period i deveoped a dependence on alcohol. i was self medicating. through the help of my doctors i finally starting taking the correct medications for my depression/disorder and and fine now. but because my drinking got so bad i joined AA one year ago and have been sober except for 3 slipups around the holidays. as of today i have been sober for almost 3 months. my husband wants a divorce and is suing for primary placement of our 2 year old. i want joint custody, primary placement with me. are my past problems going to cause me to lose primary placement? thank you

Re: child custody
Your "past problems" are one issue among many that the Court will consider in determining who should have custody of your child. Custody cases are very complex, and there is rarely one issue that will win or lose these cases, except obvious things like abuse or neglect.
These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.
