Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

child custody

I have custody of my 1yrs old as of right know. I was not married to her father nore is his name on the birth cirt. We lived together for a short time, it didn't work out so I left. I now live 4hrs away in the same state. I have taken her to see him several times. I just found out today that he's taking me to court. I don't know if it's for custody or visitation. Do I need a lawer for this? Should I be worried? What will probably happen?

Re: child custody

If he has filed an action, it is most likely for either custody or specified visitation. At the first hearing, the Court will decide who has custody of the child while the case is pending, what visitation the other person will have and how much child support he/she will have to pay.

Cases involving custody and these other issues are complex, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.
