Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina
Child Support
My daughter's father is almost $1000 behind in child support payments. He claims he can't afford the $50 a week, but just recently purchased a Ford Expedition although he claims he only works 32 hours a week at $8.50 an hour. He chooses not to have a relationship with our daughter. We have been to court twice for nonpayment and he's still behind in payments. Would hiring an attorney help? I have not been satisfied with DSS or Family Court. Also, I am engaged and my fiance would like to adopt my daughter. Is this possible?

Re: Child Support
Hiring a lawyer might would help if you are seeking an increase in support. If you just want his current support obligations to be enforced, then the family court will do that for you. As far as adopting, that depends on whether your daughter would consent.
