Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

Child support

My child graduated from high school in May. She is still 17. She will be 18 in Oct. My divorce decree does not specifically state when I can stop paying child support. According to state law it is when the child is emancipated or turns 18. My child has a full time job, pays all her bills and pays rent. I pay for her car and car insurance. She will be going to Colleg in August. Can I stop paying child support since my child is emancipated or do I have to wait until she is at college or 18?

Re: Child support

Based on the information you provided, the child support obligation will not stop until she reaches 18. You can try to bring an emancipation action to stop it prior to that date, but it is highly unlikely that the Court would grant it because she is still a minor until that time.
