Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

child support

I am currently paying child support in South Carolina. My son is getting ready to turn 17 years old and states that he is going to quit school, work full-time, and go to adult education to get his GED. Am I still required to pay support until he turns 18 years old or until he recieves his GED.

Re: child support

In South Carolina, child support typically does not terminate until the child reaches 18 or completes high school, so long as the child is making progress toward graduating high school. Based on the facts you provided, it sounds as though you will only have to pay until the child reaches 18, but without more information it is impossible to give you a definite answer. If you need more information, you can visit my family law blog (www.SCFamilyLaw.com) or our website (www.StevensFirm.com). I wish you the best of luck.
