Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina
child support
Last week I had a child sup. hearing through DSS. Ex husband did not show but his attorney did and it was stalled until 5/24 in front of a judge. My oldest son will be 18 on May 28th. If an attorney represents me that day at a DSS hearing can we ask that the boys child support continue past the age of 18 as long as they are attending college or would we have to file another case through the court?

Re: child support
College support is treated differently than child support for children under 18. The legal standards, persons involved, and factors considered are very different in these two types of cases.
DSS can assist you with regular child support, but not college support. These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.
