Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

College Expenses

We live in SC, my ex-husband verbally agreed to put $450 in my sons savings account each month to help with college (he did for 10 mths) - now he's only putting in $50/month - college is not mentioned in our divorce papers - can I or my son take him back to court & ask for help?

Re: College Expenses

Of course, verbal agreements are not enforceable, so whatever he promised previously is pretty much out the window. College support is typically not addressed until the senior year of high school or actually during college. It is typically an action brought by the child, not the parent.

These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.
