common law marriage

can you be considered common law if you were listed as a spouse on insurance documents, given a diamond engagement ring, diamon wedding band and lived together since 1999/2000. Or can he just decide one day to eject you from the house

Re: common law marriage

The keys to being common law married are (a) considering yourselves to be husband and wife and (b) holding yourselves out to others as being husband and wife. The limited facts that you mentioned seem to support a finding that you were common law married. However, other factors, such as how you filed your income taxes, etc., can also be relevant.

These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.
