Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina
defamation of character
The mother of my boyfriends child has filed court papers regarding visitation. In these documents she has accused me of verbally abusing he son and that i physically abuse my daughter-with that she named a specific incident where my daugher had been hurt-in her hospital discharge papers it says that it is a very coomon injury and not a sign of abuse, and the injury that she says happened to her is not accurate (she says shoulder and it was her elbow that was injured) i probably wouldn't be so angry except i provide childcare for a living. Is it even worth it to file suit or is there something else that I could do

Re: defamation of character
You have a couple of different ways to handle this. Your boyfriend can try to disprove her allegations in his family court case, which will hurt her credibility.
You can also file a civil case against her for defamation, but all you can recover in that case is money damages from her. If she has significant assets, then it may be worth pursuing that option. If she does not, then you will probably be wasting your time, energy, and money in doing so.
