Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

divorce

I was married in SC. My husband still lives there, but I moved to NC with our son. To file my summons and complaint for an order of separate maintenance and support does it need to be in SC, or more specifically in Columbia? And secondly, are the divorce proceedings required to take place in SC?

Re: divorce

Without more information, it is not possible to answer your question. You "can" file the action here in S.C., but whether you "have to" or not is the real question. You probably want to do it where it is most convenient for you, which may be in N.C.

If you need more information, you can visit my family law blog (www.SCFamilyLaw.com) or our website (www.StevensFirm.com). I wish you the best of luck.
