Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

divorce a vinculo matrimonii

I have a dear friend in the State of South Carolina who is separated from his wife. She has served him with divorce papers naming me as paramour and siting adultery. The term used was divorce a vinculo matrimonii. What does this mean? When I looked the term up on the internet it stated that if the divorce is granted on the grounds of adultery (true or not), then the party guilty is barred from marrying the paramour. Is this true?

Thank you.

Re: divorce a vinculo matrimonii

No, that is not true. A person who is divorced on ground of adultery is free to marry anyone who would have them. The term you looked up simply means divorce in Latin.
