Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina
DSS Meeting With Children
I have just found out that approximately a month ago my daughters were interviewed by DSS at their school. Questions regarding being touched inapproriately were asked and a physical examination was also performed. As of today, I still don't know what the reason is behind this action. I have not spoken to anyone at the school or DSS regarding this. I have played phone tag with someone at DSS after receiving a letter but I have no ideas what this is about (although it is becoming obvious). Are people such as school officials and DSS officials allowed to conduct this type of meeting without a parents knowledge or consent?

Re: DSS Meeting With Children
In certain situations, such as where allegations are that the parent is the alleged perpetrator, they are allowed to do so. Otherwise, it would be very difficult, if not impossible, to investigate such allegations.
If this happened a month ago, you should have been notified by now as to the nature of the allegaitons. You should talk with the school administrators and a supervisor at DSS if you can't get the caseworker to respond to you.
These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.
