Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina
My ex-wife was granted liberal vistation in our divorce and has made no attempts to see our daughter in the last 6.5 yrs. Now she is wanting to visit, but the child does not know her. Can a minor child make that kind of decision? Do I have to follow the divorce decree?

In order to answer this question specifically, one would need to know the exact language in your Order, which would have a large impact on whether or not you would be subject to being held in contempt. Now, the Court will not allow a child to dictate to her parents what she will / won't do, but the Court would take the mother's lack of contact into consideration in a case like this, as well as the reason for that lack of contact.
These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.
