family court motions in south carolina

i was served papers for temporary relief on november 7th, 2008 at 5:46 pm. and told I had 30 days to respond to my ex-wifes atty, in the papers i was also told i had court on december 8th,2008 at 11:00. I had a medical issue come up and responded to the court on november 14th asking the judge to continue my case until i could respond and find legal consel. I received a phone call today telling me I had court at 11:00 today and it had been continued today because the judge was sick. my question is what can I do and how can i get this case continued and also get it continued from my response , that i will be getting to the court by december 8 th, 2008. please let me know what I can do.
