Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

Family Law for 17 year old

My 17 Yr old daughter moved out to live with her 24yr old boyfriend in a hotel. He has given her cigerettes, alcohol and now is the reason she is not in school. We live in SC and have been told we do not have rights as a parent of a 17yr old by police. One even told her she can see who she wants, do what she wants and we still have to provide for her. What rights do we have in this matter?

Re: Family Law for 17 year old

Seventeen year olds operate in a bit of a "gray area" in SC. Your best course of action may be to file an action to her her declared incorrigible, which will remove some of your responsibility and provide you with some protection if she does something illegal.

These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.
