Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

What can a father do when he is paying child support, but he does not have visitation nor is did he sign the back of the birth certificate? It seems that so many fathers get behind on child support, and they do not even get to see their children, and they have to pay for that child and serve time if they do not pay. Do lawyers help in this type of cases?

The father can (and should) bring an action in Family Court asking the Court to (1) grant him visitation with the child and (2) instruct that a new birth certificate be issued listing him as the father. Certainly, an experienced family law attorney can greatly assist him with this process.

These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.
