Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

filing for child custody of abandoned nephews

My fiance is the biological uncle of his two nephews. Their mother abandoned them 4 yrs and 3 mths ago and we have been raising them since. We have NO $ for an attorney. How do we file for legal custody?

While it is technically possible to represent yourself in a Family Court matter, it is certainly not a good idea. Child custody cases are very complex, and if you do not now what you are doing, you could end up hurting your chances of prevailing.

If you cannot afford an attorney, then you should contact South Carolina Legal Services and/or the SC Bar Pro Bono Program to see if either can assist you with this case.

If you need more information, you can visit my family law blog (www.SCFamilyLaw.com) or our website (www.StevensFirm.com). I wish you the best of luck.
