Filing for Child Support after child is 18

How long does a parent have to file for child support? Can child support be filed for the first time after a child is already 18.

Child support can not be initiated retroactively. In other words, it generally starts from the date you file going forward, but it ends when the child turns 18 unless the Court finds otherwise.

Therefore, if the child in your situation is already 18 and child support was not previously established, then it is likely too late to do anything about it now.
