Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

filing for divorce or separation in SC

My husband and I have lived in SC since October 31, 2007, having moved from Florida. We are seeking a divorce (with minor child) and don't know if we are looking at the right state laws. We own property here but don't meet the one-year requirement. Please let me know how to proceed - SC or FL?

Re: filing for divorce or separation in SC

SC only requires both parties to live in SC for 90 days before it has jurisdiction over a divorce / separation case.

If you own property, it is important that your case be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.

If you need more information, you can visit my family law blog (www.SCFamilyLaw.com) or our website (www.StevensFirm.com). I wish you the best of luck.
