Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

How do I find out If I am, in fact, divorced? I am out of contact with my ex and never received any notification. If it has been completed how do I get a copy of my divorce decree?

You can check with the Clerk of Court in the county where you last resided together to see if anything was filed, and/or you can check with DHEC if you both live in SC to see if they have a record of any divorce action being filed. If you can verify that she filed one, then you may want to consider filing one yourself to be safe.

These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case. If you need more information, you can visit my family law blog (www.SCFamilyLaw.com) or our website (www.StevensFirm.com). I wish you the best of luck.
