Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina
Giving up parental rights.
I have recently given up my parental rights to my two children. My ex wife assured me that in doing so that I would no longer have to pay child support and that she would look into getting arrears dropped. I signed the papers and thought that to be the end until I recieved notice that I was still racking up child support charges and she never filed the papers. She has changed all her numbers and the court won't give me any information. Is there anything I can do to stop the charges and fix this before I can't pay and go to jail? Please help!

Re: Giving up parental rights.
Even if you signed a Consent & Relinquishment, your parental rights are NOT terminatd until and unless the Court orders that they are terminated.
You should consult an experienced family law attorney to investigate this situation to find out what did / didn't happen in this case and to advise you what options you have at this point.
