Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina
getting grandchild custody
I am considering trying to get custody of my grandson. His father is in jail and his mother(my daughter) is on drugs. They currently live in a house I own with no heat or hot water. I keep him 80% of the time and he never wants to go home. If I have plenty of witnesses that will testify to my daughter being unfit, what are my chances?
I see no signs of physical abuse, but I am worried about mental abuse and not being properly cared for as being fed and being watched as children should.

Re: getting grandchild custody
Based on the facts that you listed, I believe that there is a good chance that you can get custody of your grandson. However, it is extremely important to have good, solid proof of each of those facts and an experienced attorney who can handle the case for you. I published an article about grandparent visitation just last week, which you can read at this link: http://tinyurl.com/5glx8h
These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case. If you need more information, you can visit my family law blog (www.SCFamilyLaw.com) or our website (www.StevensFirm.com). I wish you the best of luck.
