Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

Guardianship

Can a Grandparent obtain an additional guardianship of a grandchild in addition to his parents remaining guardians also? This would be for purposes of taking child to Doctor, school conferences, etc. Things that parents would normally do, but Grandmother has to do.

Re: Guardianship

Guardianship is not necessary to do the things you reference, as they can generally be accomplished via a written authorization from the parent(s).

On the other hand, it is possible for more than two people (which may or may not include parents) to share joint custody of a child.

Before you get too far ahead of yourself, I would suggest contacting an experienced family law attorney to find out what is the best option to accomplish your specific goal(s) based on the facts of your particular case.

If you need more information, you can visit my family law blog (www.SCFamilyLaw.com) or our website (www.StevensFirm.com). I wish you the best of luck.
