Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

My husband has served me with divorce papers. I bought a home in my name alone because he had no credit and we were dating at the time of the purchase in may 2003 before we got married in November 2003...does he have any legal rights to my home?

The equity that accrued (if any) in the home during the marriage will likely be considered marital property, to be allocated along with all of the other marital assets and debts. However, there are other issues, such as "special equity", that will need to be taken into consideration.

These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.
