Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

Legal Adult

I am a teenager who goes to highschool and works. i live in a shelther with my mother and these is not the first shelther i have lived at. My mother has personal problems and I don't think she needs to have custody of me. Nobody in my family can keep me. I have tried. I want to know how do I go about becoming my own adult? I don't want to go in a foster home.

Re: Legal Adult

I would contact the Department of Social Services, and try to find a suitable placement if your mother cannot take care of you. Living on your own would not be the solution. Even if you were considered an emancipated teenager, you would not be able to rent an apartment or buy a car until you are 18. You are only a teenager for a short while, so get an education and make the best of your teen years, even if you have to go to a foster home for a couple of years.
