Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina
He says I get nothing!
Hello, I have been married for a little over 1 year in South Carolina to controlling drunk. We have
agreed that the only option now is divorce. He owned a landscaping business, 2 homes and several
vehicles prior to us getting married. I owned a vehicle and little else. My question is this: Since I worked full time for the business as well as all of the homemaker duties, what exactly am I entitled to as far as equitable distribution. He is saying that I get nothing, not even a vehicle (we had sold mine
shorty after marriage). It seems to me that I should be entitled to, at the very least, a vehicle (so I
can get to and from work) and more fairly, a vehicle and a portion of this past year's business
profits, since I worked very hard and signed several new clients as well. Thank You

You will be entitled to a portion of the assets which were acquired during the marriage and those which "became" marital property during that time. Without knowing much, much more information, it is not possible to give you any specific answers.
These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.
