Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina
I have been married for 10 years now separated for almost 2 years and am trying to work out an agreement for the final hearing. In the state of South Carolina will i be required to help pay off student loans under my wife's name, I was also in school during these times and have no student loans. The loans were not a necessary thing for her to get but she got them anyway. I just need to know if i should agree to make payments with her or not. We have two children that i pay child support for and have been paying 500.00 a month on top of that for marital debt, of which most was paid off before i was ordered to pay this to her. I am stuck between a rock and a hard place, i have not been able to get my own lawyer due to the large payments to her every month, we are trying to come up with an arrangement to finish this, I can pay the money to her school loans if the extra money was to be taken away but i fear if i agree to this an my child support goes up a great deal i will be no better off then i am now
