Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

I'm in the military and i want to make someone my dependent. Since the person is not related to me i have to be their legal guardian or i have to adopt them. The problem is is that the person is 18. The reason i want to adopt her and make her my dependent is because she i still in high school and was recently kicked out by her parents. Is there a way to adopt her?
