Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

minor guardianship

My husband and I would like to consent to temporary guardianship of our 15 yr old son to my brother-in-law and his wife. We are from WI, they live in SC. Which state do we do this in? How long does this process take? Approximately how much would this process cost? Also, who would provide the medical insurance?

Re: minor guardianship

You could probably handle this type of action in either WI or SC, but typically the state where the children have lived for the last six months will have jurisdiction. The process and costs involved will likely vary between SC and WI, so you should contact an attorney in each state to discuss your options with regard to those items.

These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case. If you need more information, you can visit my family law blog (www.SCFamilyLaw.com) or our website (www.StevensFirm.com). I wish you the best of luck.
