Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina
mother unfit?
I have been divorced (in TN) from my ex wife for over eight years and have had 1 hour of visitation with my him in all those years. She listens in on our phone conversations. We'll set up dates to go see him and she backs out. I drove all the way to MD from SC and she told me he was busy that day and let me see him for an hour. Now that he's 13 I asked again. She says I have to take his older sister too if I want to get him this summer. I am not her father. She is going through another divorce presently and her current husband has contacted me. My ex wife is teaching my son to lie about him to state authorities because she doesn't want him to have visitation with their daughter. He is going to court to prove her unfit. If she is proven unfit will I be notified? Can I go get my son? My son and his mother live in MD and I live in SC.

Re: mother unfit?
If the child and mother live in MD, then you need to contact an attorney there to discuss your options. If SC did have jurisdiction, there are several things that you could do, but as I'm not licensed in MD, I cannot advise you of your options there.
These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.
