Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina
parental right
I am expecting a baby and the father is not supporting me finincially or otherwise. I want him to sign over his parental right to me. How do I go about doing this?

Re: parental right
The Family Court cannot address any issues regarding this child until *after* the child has been born. However, even then, the Court will not allow him to terminate his rights without a showing of very, very good reasons to do so.
Failure to provide monetary support during the pregnancy will not suffice, as you can ask the Court to require him to pay child support once the child is born and to reimburse you for a portion of the medical expenses related to the child.
These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.
